German Medical Institute

The GMI (https://gmi.com.cy/) team has long-standing experience in technological innovation in the healthcare sector. It builds on work and experience gained through participation in key EU-funded projects such as EUCAIM, which is the cornerstone of the European Cancer Imaging Initiative, itself a flagship of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. Furthermore, in the last 2 years the GMI team has published 15 papers in the field of applied technological innovations in the healthcare sector. The Radiation Oncology Department of GMI is a reference centre of ELEKTA and Sun Nuclear for high-precision radiotherapy. GMI has also the only PET–CT scanner in Cyprus (EARL- and QIBA-accredited, GE Healthcare) and one of the 13 first Somatom Force dual-source CT scanners worldwide (Siemens Healthineers, Germany). The GMI team has long standing expertise in project management and hosts a dedicated team of scientific project managers.

University of Cyprus

The University of Cyprus (UCY) is a public research institute and is the leading academic organisation in Cyprus, with active participation in national (RIF), European (HE, H2020, ERC, MSCA, etc.) and international programmes in R&D and innovation activities. UCY is an endorser of the “European Charter for Researchers” and accredited with the “HR Excellence in Research” logo. The In Silico Modelling Group (https://in-silico-modelling.ucy.ac.cy), from UCY’s Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, will team up and lead the 4th work package of this project, PROTECT. The group has considerable experience in computer and mathematical modelling, numerical methods and simulations, in high-performance computing and medical image analysis methods

3AE Health LTD

3AE Health is a Cyprus-based SME that specializes in the design and development of cutting-edge, reliable, and interoperable solutions in the areas of eHealth, mHealth, healthcare data analytics, and image and video processing. The company was established in 2016 and was co-founded by a team of senior scientists bringing together significant expertise in developing innovative, intelligent, and citizen-centred solutions, emanating from decades of involvement in R&D projects at both National and European levels. 3aHealth product suite is designed around the healthcare interoperability standards and EU directives for cross-system data communication and cross-border healthcare services. 3aHealth’s portfolio includes Cyprus’ European Union Digital Covid Certificate (EUDCC) platform – https://www.eudcc.gov.cy/, CovPass Cyprus and CovScan Cyprus mobile applications, an inpatient monitoring hospital information system (also customized for COVID-19 patients), a hospital content resource management (CRM) system, and many smaller scale products across the eHealth ecosystem. Recently, 3aHealth concluded the development of the FHIR-based Electronic Health Record (EHR) with International Patient Summary (IPS) support [2023] via the RIF-funded project eHealth4U: Integrated National eHealth Ecosystem. Currently, 3aHealth is the technical leader of the H2020-MSCA RESPECT: Secure and Privacy –preserving Indoor Robotics for Healthcare Environments project and the RIF-CoDevelop project HospAItal: Hospital Transformation through Artificial Intelligence.

The Cyprus Institute

The Cyprus Institute (www.cyi.ac.cy) is a non-profit research and educational institution of international composition, governed by a Board of Trustees comprising world-renown scientists and prominent political and entrepreneurial Leaders. The Institute is characterised by a novel philosophy on interdisciplinary research and education, and cutting-edge infrastructure to materialize it, which support a scientific, technological and innovative orientation aiming at world-class standards of excellence.  Research at CyI is carried out in 5 cross-disciplinary Centers that address problems of great scholarly relevance, global significance and regional focus.  

The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) is a partner in the PROTECT project. CaSToRC pioneers in research, development, and deployment of computational and large-scale data methodologies for the advancement of scientific and technological disciplines. Key areas of expertise are Computational Modeling and Simulation, High Performance Computing (HPC), Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Quantum Computing (QC). CaSToRC has been designated as Cyprus’ National Competence Centre (NCC) in HPC, and as such utilizes its expertise to support and educate user communities in academia, industry, and government.

EUNDO

EUNDO is a Cypriot SME that was established to bring healthcare innovation in Cyprus – founded by Dr C. Anastassiou and Dr A. Livera. EUNDO’s mission is to bring to the market algorithms and synthetic data solutions for the healthcare sector first and with the possibility of expanding to other sectors. PROTECT represents the first major undertaking of EUNDO. The current team is small but with the help of the partner organization (GMI) has more than enough expertise and resources to carry through the tasks for PROTECT. Both leading investigators have considerable experience managing R&D projects (H2020, MedEra, and RIF).
